Cutting Rounds for Bowl Blanks

I'm new to this effort.  I tried using some free maple, painted the ends and then tried to double turn a blank.  Very punky, they had been down too long.  Free was hard to turn down.

So I have some fairly fresh sweetgum rounds.  I'm trying to stay in my lathe range of 14".

I'm looking for suggestions on how to cut these.

Below are how I'm doing large rounds with an 18" bar.  I'm making a plunge cut, then cutting down each side.  I then cut the ends off each half to get within 16" for the bandsaw.  I'm cutting the bark off one side to make a block.  They are 8" thick.  I'll be painting what I've done so far.

I have to use forks as they are too heavy other than to roll.

I cut two as quarters and left the bark on.

    Photos attached.

It looks like you are doing a great. The smaller blanks can be done pretty much the same way.
