Stuart Batty - Hands On Class - The Perfect Cut

    Date:  Friday, February 7, 2019
Location:  Dave Wood's Shop - 24250 SW 65th Ave, Tualatin, Or
    Time:  9:00 am-4:00 pm
    Cost:  $125
Lunch - Sandwich lunch and drinks will be provided

    Description:

This is a “techniques” class for learning the techniques Stuart has been teaching to thousands of students in his 35 plus years of teaching.  He learned how to turn from his famous father, Alan Batty at age of 16 so we are looking at techniques that have been successfully taught by the Batty family for 80 plus years

    What you will learn

Stuart will show the art of cutting without torn grain using the three main gouge types: bowl, spindle, roughing.

Stuart’s demonstration will include the simple way to freehand grind each of the tools, allowing it to perform at its best for all wood types.

He will break down the cuts in to simple movements that everyone can learn.

He will show how the right hand controls the tool, the left hand assists, and the body movements that make cutting easier and repeatable.

    Who Should Attend

Key to Stuart’s training is not only how to make perfect cuts but the reason why this works better than other techniques.  He will help new turners learn correct techniques and correct the bad habits of experienced turners.
