Lathe Electronics Problems

Is there anyone in the club that is able to work on the electronics in a lathe? I have a Laguna 2436 that is having problems turning on. It is 3 hp running on a VFD. The main control switch has been problematic since I got it so I have used the remote controls. For a long time the on switch would sometimes no work until a tapped the control box then it would start and work fine. Now the taps are not working. I have replaced the switch and the relay and can hear them "click" when they should, but nothing from the lathe. I am worried now that it is something in the VFD.

I am also working on making inventory for upcoming shows, so I am in a bind and may be looking to buy a second lathe while I try to get my main lathe back up and running. Does anyone know of any decent lathes available for sale, or maybe for borrow for a month or two. I would want something with 1-1/4“x 8tpi spindle and 1" post.

    Hi Jason,

I have been around electronics all my life. Our large screen TV recently died after about six years; well after any warranty.  I replaced three capacitors ($2 each) on the power supply board, just by following the board layout and silkscreen, and now it works like new. Probably saved $1k or more, because I would have upgraded. Please text me and I can make a shop call.

    Hello Jason

I have a powermatic and my VFD gives me problems. There are codes to reprogram the inverter. I found a man on a web forum that had the code and I reprogrammed the inverter and it works, unfortunately it does not fix it, it just gets it running for a few months. I had no luck when I looked on PowerMatics web page but you may have better luck with yours. Do you have you owners manual, check it for the codes.

Chris Dix was able to get the lathe back up and running for me. He traced it back to a dusty relay that is part of the selector switch for using the headstock controls or remote.
