How to earn FREE daily admission to AAW in June

17 Apr 2018 3:11 PM | Mike Porter (Administrator)

I chair the AAW Symposium Committee that recruits hosts for the international demonstrators and one special VIP that will fly in to Portland in June.  One very special demonstrator, Ray Wright from Idaho, is blind.  He teaches woodturning where he lives and will be doing demonstrations at the Symposium and visiting areas of his interest.  He needs a daily chaperone to meet him at the Double Tree Hotel in the morning, transport him to the Convention Center and be his companion for the day, returning him at the end of the day.

AAW will grant free admission to volunteer chaperones for Friday, Saturday or Sunday.  The Saturday chaperone will also get a free banquet ticket. If you have already paid for the Symposium, AAW will give you a credit for that day.

Additionally, Ray will need to be met at the Portland Airport on the Wednesday and returned to fly home on the Monday.  He will also need assistance on the Thursday(a no admission fee day) when demonstrators need to attend orientation meetings and check out the room they will be working in.

If you are interested in volunteering to assist Ray, let me know by email:  NOTE:  I'll be a way on a trip from April 23rd to return on May 9th.
