Description:  For the AAW Symposium in June, there is a challenge laid at our feet which the NWWT Board has accepted...to make bowls to be sold at the Symposium in support of Meals on Wheels.  Each bowl will be sold at the Symposium for $25 each. All proceeds go to this charity that supports the Portland Metro area.

Dale Larson has extended an invitation to our Club to come to his shop to make bowls in support of this effort.  Club members will be bringing mid sized lathes to augment Dale's equipment.  The Club will is looking into acquiring dry bowl blanks from NW Figured Woods at a reasonable cost as we did for Ashley's class in Feb.  Bring your own blanks.  We recommend 8" in diameter as an appropriate maximum size down to 6".  These bowls will be sold for $25 regardless of size or wood type.  The plan is to provide some finishing supplies but not yet confirmed.

Several experienced Club members will be on hand to provides support, instruction and coaching in technique.  This day will be an excellent opportunity to tune up your bowl turning skills.

We recommend car pooling for the drive out to Dale's place.  He has parking, but it will help if we reduce the number of vehicles.

Please register for headcount and planning purposes.

Important:

  • Bring your safety equipment - safety glasses and ear protection, and/or respirator.
  • Bring your turning tools labeled with your name on them.  Protect the sharp points and/or carry them in a tool roll up.
  • Bring sandpaper and finishing supplies.
  • Bring a bit of cash that may be collected for bowl blanks, lunch and/or coffee and donuts. You may also bring your own lunch, of course.
