Tom Wirsing, past president of the AAW, will be the demonstrator for Cascade this coming month (September 22 club meeting.  The hands on class will include making a platter to finish without the use of sandpaper.  Tools you will need to bring include your favorite bowl gouges and scrapers.  Tom will supply the appropriate turning blanks.

His platter work is thought to be some of the best around.  He makes his platters with a bowl gouge and various scrapers.  Tom's skill with the scrapers is such that little if any sanding is required prior to applying a finish.

He will also focus on various tool steels as well as sharpening techniques.  His presentation on tool steels and sharpening has received acclaim not only by clubs in the US but also ones overseas.
